Celbrating Sisterhood

Celebrating Sisterhood

City Hall
By Ian Caruana

In early May, Seattle celebrated the relationships with 4 or our 21 sister cities at City Hall. It was an evening of food, song, dance and festivity of our sisterhood. Mayor Mike McGinn was the keynote speaker and reinforced Seattle’s

commitment to continuing our exchange of ideas, cultures, arts and causes.

We not only embrace our differences, but also that which we share in common. A sisterhood that builds bridges to places most of us will never visit, but ones that make our cities and experiences in them all that much better.

I belong to the Seattle-Perugia Sister City Association (SPSCA) and was very pleased we made a nice representation to those assembled  at City Hall - plus we won the award for most active association, due in part to the Seattle Italian
International Film Festival we help sponsor each year at SIFF, and the exquisite Morretti Foundation ceramic collection donation to the city. The generous gift of the ceramic collection shows the commitment level we have between our cities. After it was on display at City Hall for two months, the collection was installed on Concourse A at Sea-Tac International Airport.

This July we continue our strong relationship as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of our sister city relationship. Last year at the Italian film festival and official  opening of the Morretti show, we were honored to receive several delegates from Perugia...so this year we will take a group of Seattle delegates, and friends of the association, for a week of festivities in Perugia to celebrate 20 years of friendship and sisterhood.
We are eager to bring nice size delegation and hope those who wish to travel with the association will contact Mike James, the Seattle president of SPSCA, ASAP.
